a population of around 900 souls and nestles under the north downs some five miles to the east of maidstone. the village has nearly one hundred listed buildings and three conservation areas and is surrounded by several sites of special scientific interest. there are spectacular views across the village and kent towards the south downs from the top of hollingbourne hill. the village is on the southern edge of the north kent downs aonb which stretches from bromley to dover. there are also several sssi’s in the vicinity of hollingbourne. the village straddles one of the main transport corridors between london and the coast with the m20, a20, and channel tunnel rail link passing to the south of the village. dover and gatwick airport are 45 minutes away and london can be reached in just over an hour by train from hollingbourne station. there are also regular bus services from the village into maidstone and from hollingbourne corner on the a20 to ashford and maidstone. at the north end of the village is an ancient track where the north downs way and the pilgrim’s way combine which also forms part of the national cycle network. the north downs way runs from stonehenge to dover and the pilgrim’s way runs from winchester and london to canterbury and dover where pilgrims crossed the english channel on their way to rome or jerusalem or santiago de compostela. the main b2163/c603 road from the a20 runs through the village following what was historically the driest route through the village up to hollingbourne hill which is one the traditional routes through the north downs to sittingbourne and the north kent coast. the village is dissected by the maidstone to ashford railway line and there are at least hourly services from hollingbourne station to maidstone east and london and to ashford international and canterbury. in the village there are three public houses, one shop with a part-time post office that sells meat, an osteopath, several builders as well as other small businesses. there is also a very popular school, a historic church, several active clubs and societies, and local attractions include leeds castle and the wormshill and bredgar light railway. there are also several local hotels, bed and breakfasts, a caravan club campsite and a 24 hour petrol station at the junction 8 service area on the m20 which is close to hollingbourne. the motorway service area has an electric car charging point. hollingbourne is in the north downs ward which is the largest electoral ward in maidstone borough council in terms of physical size and is within the faversham and mid kent parliamentary constituency. as from the autumn of 2016 all saints’ church is part of the north downs benefice which also includes leeds, broomfield, otham, langley, bearsted, hucking, thurnham, detling, grove green, and boxley. the parish is within the diocese of canterbury which covers a lot of kent and includes the channel islands of jersey, guernsey, alderney,
